I'm listening to...

Right now I'm listening to... Channel Orange by Frank Ocean. It's my new favourite album.

It has a great r+b, chilled out vibe to it. It's pretty great. And don't let the explicit content put you off - it's not very sweary at all.

happy sunday.

Things I'm afraid to tell you...

Yesterday I heard on the radio about this article and had to check it out for myself. It's basically about what goes on behind closed doors and the front we put up for the world. Social media does not help with this - who wants to share with the world about their breakdown because their clothes didn't fit properly and they were having a bad hair day? Not many of us.

I don't want to play the victim here and I don't think I project that I have a perfect life (at all), but here's the "missing pieces" in my life that are usually kept under wraps in my crazy brain (or written/drawn in a journal for no one to see)...

I have stopped going on Facebook so often, because I'm sick and tired of feeling depressed and like a failure every time someone else announces they are pregnant (just found this article on "ramblings of an infertile woman" - it was pretty great and on the money). I get anxiety about money pretty much all the time and don't feel like I will ever get ahead in life and stop living week to week. I feel like I am no good at anything much anymore with two failed business attempts, my one career choice shoved in my face, people always telling me I'm doing a crap job at my current job and being constantly overwhelmed at how much is expected of me.

Yep, I know I have a great husband, I have a job (well 3 in fact), I'm studying to steer my life into the direction I think I want it to go in and I have my health, but it certainly doesn't stop all that crazy + insecurities going on in my head. We all have our own shit to deal with and I think we just have to keep reminding ourselves no matter how awesome or great someones life looks from the outside, it is almost always not as rosy on the inside. Don't you think!?

So that's me. All my cards laid on the table. Have I scared you off? Please come back and read more of my ramblings :)

I have a GIRL CRUSH...

I have a huge girl crush on Kate Bosworth. I love her. A lot. I love her laid back, relaxed style and I do love her hair too. I also like that she repeats a bit of her clothing and clearly has her favourite items she wears again and again - just like a normal person. Case in point is the suede ankle boots she wears in 4 of the photos above. I actually just purchased a similar pair from big w. Here is how I plan to wear them - Kate Bosworth style:

KATE BOSWORTH STYLE

I'd pair my new boots with denim shorts and a slouchy top/jumper (it's a bit hot for jumpers at the moment here); a plain top, pretty skirt and bright necklace or with a simple black mid length dress. I'd probably wear a bright red lip to jazz things up a bit and some bright bracelets if I was feeling like it needed a bit more oomph (this would depend on my mood). I'd also pair it with a tan messenger bag or my current bag (I did a DIY for it).

Do you have a girl crush at the moment? I have a number of them, and one massive boy crush, but that's a blog post for another day.

DIY: Studded Bag

This DIY is such a simple one. I had a bag which I found in Kmart for $10 but it needed jazzing up a bit, so I grabbed some studs (these can be found in bead shops or craft stores. I got mine from here) and one by one while watching TV fixed them to the bag. I found the easiest way to do this was to pierce the stud through the leather/fabric a few at a time. If you happen to pierce the lining, then pull the lining away from the stud, then with some pliers, fold the spikes inwards. I did a couple of google searches on the correct way to do this and some said to fold the prongs outwards - I highly disagree. I would have no fingers left if I'd done it this way. I vote for folding the prongs in. Work your way around the bag, adding studs where necessary. For my bag, I bought 50 studs but only used about 30. And that's pretty much it. Super Simple and a way to pass the time while watching mindless TV that you don't have to think about or concentrate on.

A Short Film made with Instagram

I just came across this lovely little film by a Brazilian dude - Fernando Sanchez - called Summer Eleven. It was made entirely of instagram photos. It's pretty awesome. Take a look.

Purple. Floral. Blurred.

Last weekend I bought myself a bunch of purple daisies at the farmers market. I started taking photos and found I liked the shades of purple and patterns they made when out of focus. I took some more. These were my favourites.

Super pretty if you ask me.

Have a great weekend.

October Desktop Wallpaper

I think it's been a month since I posted last. Oops. HOw did that happen?

Well, here's something to start off the month - the wallpaper calendar.

I have to admit, the greyish lines on this really irritate me. However I have no creative suite or photoshop (long stupid story), so I was left to basics.

Something nice and fresh for the month ahead.

enjoy!

September Desktop Calendar

Yep, it's been a while since I've been on here.
I've been super busy and have a thousand excuses under the sun as to why I haven't posted in for ever.
That's a post for another day. For now I have this months calendar.

I have to pop a little disclaimer on this month that this photo is not my own photo and i sourced it right here

It's something a bit florally and springy to bring in the warmer weather.

I'll be back soon hopefully.
Sooner rather than later.

I'm almost there.

It has been a bit quiet on the blog front. I've been getting back to normal, recovering and hibernating - it's cold here you know! This week was my first week back to "normal". Driving, tutoring, full time work, cleaning and college. It was pretty tough at the beginning of the week - Tuesday was THE LONGEST day ever and I was absolutely pooped (and seriously sore) by the time I got home at 9:30pm. But I'm getting back into the swing of things. My legs got shaved (because I can lean forward now - a treat i know!), i rejoined the gym (commencing when i can at least walk normally again. i'm getting close), i painted my nails pink, attempted to treat myself to a pedicure today (unsuccessful but the thought was there), food is being baked and dishes and clothes are getting washed. I'm getting there.

I enjoyed my week off though. No pressures to do anything. I enjoyed it and think I need to stop pressuring myself to do everything. I've obviously done a bit of soul searching while flat out on the couch for days. Who knew!? I thought I was just watching the Kardashians and Grey's Anatomy.

I feel like i'm coming back. In a slightly different way.
A better version of me. A more relaxed, why stress out me.

A few new scars for tara

I had a little operation today.
A laparoscopy.
Nothing major. Just a baby making boost hopefully!
I was starving after my bowel prep yesterday
(and I won't go into that anymore because it's yuck).
I was most concerned about the bowel prep and having to get stitches out.
The actual operation didn't bother me at all, but scared husband the most.
I got to lay under the warm blanket. My fave part of having an operation.
While they were cleaning the theatre before I went in, it sounded like they were clearing a dinner table.
My GP turned up + said hi. That was a nice surprise.
I got to wear a red wrist band. It was a nice red too.
I rocked some pretty blue shower cap type slippers.
It made me realise I seriously need a dressing gown. Do you know how warm they are!?
I scored another pair of hospital grade pressure tights for my next plane trip.
I got to eat a roast beef and tomato sandwich in recovery. It was really good.
I now have 4 new little scars. That's a total so far of 4 little ones and 2 big ones.

I have spent the day on the couch in my PJs with the heater on catching up on my shows.
It was a cold, rainy day and a perfect day to rest on the couch.
I hate the feeling that I've got from the oxygen build-up in my body.
I feel like I have air bubbles between my ribs and lungs.
I probably do and it's annoying me.
I'm super excited though that I don't have to get stitches taken out.
Hip Hip Hooray for that!

And that's my story for today.
Tomorrow is more resting and catching up on the rest of my TV shows.
Kardashians, Tabitha Taking Over + Revenge.
Crappy shows that I love and I can't wait. I've been saving them up in preparation.

Thanks husband for looking after me today.
Thanks a bunch.

What have you been up to today!?

Wake up your inner child.

I have just read this article about waking up your inner child and how it can be important to your every day life.

Do something fun childlike today.

Here's a few fun/stupid things to make you giggle:

Jump in a puddle
Run through the rain
Roll down a grassy hill (this isn't as easy as when you were a child, but still fun!)
Blow bubbles
Pop some paper clips onto your nails and make creepy long claws
(If you eat cheezels/burger rings) pop them on your fingers like rings
Buy some hubba bubba and shove the whole pack in your mouth and try blow a super big bubble to cover your whole face.
Dack someone (I do this on a weekly basis! Not in public though)
Buy a pack of allen's lollies and pop the teeth ones over your real teeth
Buy some liquorice and leave a stick over your teeth for as long as you can and see how green you can get your teeth.
Make + eat fairy bread
Walk in shoes that are bigger than your own feet ( i like walking in my husband thongs - practical when i can't find mine but it makes me laugh coz I feel like a bit of a clown).
Dance like an idiot.
Pick some teeny tiny weedy flowers and give them to someone
Blow a raspberry on someone - preferably someone you know.

There's a few to get you started.
It makes me laugh just thinking of them all!

Kids are great. Release your inner child.

Treasure Yourself: Week 4

Well I am coming up to week 4 in the Treasure Yourself Project and feeling on top of things for the moment.

I had a week last week, maybe the week before where everything kind of got on top of me and I was feeling super sorry for myself - woe is me - that type of rubbish.

I was worried about money, work, an upcoming operation (and how I was going to get the money to pay for it), starting school again (and how I was going to pay for it) and the ever growing pile of laundry and chores to do. (Did you notice the money worries pattern!? I'm pretty sure everyone has this worry these days!)

I blogged about it, i thought about it (far too much probably) and got over it.

Life really isn't as bad as my head makes it out to be sometimes.

I started doing yoga again (well i've started with daily salute the sun exercises) and am really making an effort to cut down on the amount of processed foods and sugar I'm eating.

My life is back in control for the minute and I have one crazy busy week left, but I'll get through it. It's not the end of the world. It's really not.

I'm looking forward to this week and how I'll be feeling cleaner and fitter than ever.

I am continuing to add pins on pinterest to by "treasure yourself" board and you can follow my pins here.

Here's to a healthy week where we turn our lives around and just get on with it.

I'm one week in...

I started studying again last week.
It's been 5 years or so.
I am going part-time, 2 nights a week after work.

It's week one and I'm shattered.
So tired from working all week (that's the full time job + tutoring and cleaning) and not getting home until nearly 10pm twice a week.
I'm usually in bed by 9pm every night.
Fast asleep by 9:30 at the absolute latest.

I'm getting into the routine.
I'm getting used to it - I have no choice.

I'm looking forward to the end result.
