march calendar

it snuck up on me this month.
all of a sudden i realised tomorrow is march! far out. how'd that happen?

here's a lovely calendar for you to pop up onto your desktop and write your daily doings on.
it's as simple as right clicking the picture, saving it and adding text in a photo editing program. then just right click, press save as background and done! ta da.....

i've got to say, i'm pretty bloody happy with this one. i like it. a lot.
i think it's becasue i love the fabric....a table cloth from my fave op shop.
love it to bits.

go ahead, make your desktop PRETTY.

op shop finds

so my mother in law is coming to stay with us at the end of the month for awhile. this means i have the massive task of cleaning out my sewing room so she can sleep in there. it's not the neatest of spaces and as my husband says it's full of s&!t, i like to think it's an organised mess. i knew where everything was!

yesterday i started the clean out and the finding of spots for things. this is proving to be the hardest part. i like to have everything out so i can see it. there are not enough spots for everything i have. but anyway, as i was cleaning out i re-discovered some of my latest op shop finds. it was like finding them again!!

loving these cute as a button toothpick holders. they are now thumbtack and rubber band containers.
note the heart shaped opening. love it!

some delightfully illustrated books.
i had the best of intentions to cut these up and make something out of them, but don't think i can bring myself to do it.

and an array of lovely handkerchiefs and pretty fabric.

i'm not quite sure what i'm going to do with the hankies, but they are lovely all the same.

i'm also in the process of getting my facebook page sorted out.
 stay tuned for that one.

Saturday + Sunday: Seen + Salvaged

what glorious weather we've had this weekend! crossing my fingers and toes that spring is well and truly on its way. worked in the shop yesterday then went out for dinner with the fam for grandpa's 86th birthday. i ate so much stuff i shouldnt have eaten. so over the diet!

today we went to pottsville markets. i got the most awesome little table for a super cheap $10. i was very happy with my buy! husband wasn't too impressed. i won him over by saying it was going to the shop but i think i may just keep it for myself!

i also treated myself to an extra tasty lychee iceblock for $1.50. nice.

husband is at another bbq.
i'm supposed to be sewing but don't know what to sew.
(i should really be cleaning the house as it's a pig-sty. meh)
have been checking out lots of blogs to inspire me.
found a few things i'm liking.
i'm off to have a play.

Monday: Make. Create. Sew

so a few weeks ago in the self-portrait my place and yours i was asked what lettering was behind me in the photo. it was a project i'd been meaning to do for ages after i'd seen it on a blog somewhere (found the link) and finally got around to doing it at the start of the year.

so here's my easy peasy tutorial for fabric wall decals:

step one | cut out your fabric in whatever shape you like

step two | make a mixture of liquid starch
(this makes a ridiculous amt of liquid, way more than what you probably need, but i will give
                  you the recipe i use)
step three | mix 1/4 cup plain flour with 1/2 cup cold water. add 4 cups of boiling water and mix till clear-ish.
step four | now grab a nice big paintbrush, hold you fabric where you want it to go and start painting on your
cornflour mixture. i found it easier to start at the top, so the first few brushes held it onto the wall.

and that's it! once you've painted it on leave it to dry and that's it. when you're bored of it simply peel it off the wall. it makes no marks on the wall at all...you may need to wipe off dried mixture with a damp cloth though.  so simple!

and while i've got you here, i have to share the great things i got while checking out my fave opshop today. i was so very excited!!!
(yep blurry but you can see everything better. love the missoni style tea cosy complete with pom poms)

i just love these sheets (read: new very cheap fabric).
now, i know this op shop is a great one.
i always find something in there to buy, but i have never seen this much vintage fabric in the one opshop on one day.
it made my day seeing as my dad and i popped in there just because we were around the corner.
it was clearly meant to be!

My Place + Yours

this week in my place + yours the theme is
Pre-loved: Inherited or Thrifted.

i have bucket loads of this stuff around my house (much to the loath of my husband!). it's taken me ages to know where to start, but once i started taking pictures, i didn't know where to stop!! some are recent pics i've just taken, others are shots i took when i first got the piece.

vases/pretty bottles...all op shop items

                                                                                                            table. now sewing table...inherited

vintage glasses...inherited (from grandpa).
(had to fight my aunt for these babies!!)

vintage clock...inherited (from grandpa)

fabric...some inherited, well taken (from mum) and some op shop finds

more fabric...inherited (from my sister)

doilies...all op shop finds.
i love finding doilies in opshops. my fave opshop buys by far.

dining chairs...inherited (from side of the road by dad)

and ah my most favourite purchase ever i think...the $4 chair........garage sale
seriously i got this baby for $4 down the road, with a pillow thrown in.
and please excuse the bike resting on it.
with a 12 yr old boy everything becomes a bike stand or something secure to lock your bike, skateboard or ripstick onto.

ah, this was a fun one.
i do love a bargain and "recycled" items.
